Representation Of Principal Urban Areas In The Premier League
11 May 2008Continuing from here, I’ve looked at the number of clubs from each of the 7 largest urban areas in England that have played each season in the Premier League.
With both Wigan and Bolton safe, for the fourth consecutive season, there will be 4 clubs from the Greater Manchester area in the Premier League next season. The Greater Manchester area had not had more than 3 clubs in the Premier League before that.
If Fulham are relegated, and Crystal Palace not promoted, for the first time, London will have less than 5 clubs in the Premier League (4).
For the second consecutive season, there will be no club from either South Yorkshire or West Yorkshire in the Premier League. In fact, since 2004, Sheffield Utd in 2006-07 is the only occasion that the two largest metropolitan areas in Yorkshire have had a club in the Premier League.
Well, Fulham stayed up, and Crystal Palace won’t be promoted, so London stays at 5 clubs in the Premier League.
