In England, Hull City’s loss at home to Bolton means they don’t move back into the top four, despite Manchester United losing away at Arsenal.

After a brief interruption last weekend at Spurs, Liverpool’s luck resumed mid-week in the Champions League, with a late penalty earning them a 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid.

Personally, I think Steven Gerrard is the best diver in English football, mainly because despite the frequency with which he does it, he hardly ever gets accused of it.

AFC Wimbledon, re-formed after Wimbledon FC moved to Milton Keynes and changed their name to Milton Keynes Dons, play in the First Round for the first time on Monday, 20 years after Wimbledon upset Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup Final in 1988.

    Chelsea won at Blackburn to go back to the top of the table, displacing Liverpool who had gone top on Saturday with a home win against WBA.

    A lot of away wins in the Premier League this weekend – 6, compared with 3 home wins, and just one draw.

    Aston Villa also failed to move into the top four, losing at home to Middlesbrough.

    Berbatov may not play with frenetic aggression (the way most Premier League games appear to be played so far this season), but he links up well with other intelligent players. The problem on Saturday was a combination of wastefulness and bad luck. You can’t do much about luck, but wastefulness ….
