The Message Board & Reports: 24 November 2009
Posted by rajiv on 24 November 2009
I originally chose Aimoo instead of ProBoards for the message board as giffa.aimoo.com was available while giffa.proboards.com was not.
Although I could set up both to allow non-members to reply to a thread, “Quick Reply” was not available to guests on ProBoards.
However, I have since discovered that the poll function is not as good on Aimoo as it is on Proboards. Further, although you can use the “Quick Reply” on Aimoo without being registered as a member, the spam filter makes it difficult to reply as a guest. Also, guests can use a name when replying on ProBoards. On Aimoo, you can only reply as “Guest” so you have to remember to include your name in the reply itself.
I have tried putting up reports on ProBoards for the games on Sunday and last night and the poll works much better than on Aimoo. A player poll in the form we have become familiar with on this blog can easily be included.
I’m therefore moving the message board to ProBoards. I’m sorry to have to do this, but it’s better that I do so sooner rather than later. As giffa.proboards.com is not available, it’s at http://giffas.proboards.com/ (Generic Indoor Football For All (Singapore). I’ve also moved the Schedule there.
My apologies in particular to those who have already registered as members on Aimoo – Azmi, Poh Keng, Kevin A, Imran, Erik H and Neil M. I hope you will register on the ProBoards message board too. I think the Aimoo membership can easily be deleted. Everyone is encouraged to register as members on the ProBoards message board.
The player poll will now be the crux of the reports on the ProBoards message board. Results can be added as a comment, but are entirely optional. The polls will remain open for 3 days from the date of posting.
A list of current reports has been included in the Current GIFFA Games page.
On a separate note, the domain name “fiofafi.com” will be expiring on 26 November 2009. I will not be renewing it.

You can still access the blog through http://fiofafi.wordpress.com. You won’t be able to access the blog through http://fiofafi.com or http://www.fiofafi.com.
The domain name fiofafi.com is not free.

Hi Rajiv
what is the damage for this domain , Probably we could get members to chip in some. Thanks
rajiv said
Not much. Just the hassle of renewing the domain name, when the blog doesn’t really require it.
If there is a clamour to keep the domain name, I’ll renew it.
Tom said
The cost is around US$10 per year.

Hi Rajiv
$US10 a year is ok i guess . Can i sponsor the $10usd and keep this Blog for good . Its a hassel to register again . Let me know on your thoughts as you and Tom are the pioneer for this . Thanks

Sorry Rajseran, as I said, I intend to continue to use this blog to “to discuss new developments in promoting sport and activity for older or working adults.”.
You can read more about FIOFAFI and how it has developed here, and in the subsequent posts linked below that post.
The domain name fiofafi.com is completely separate from the blog. I purchased the domain name and linked it to the blog. I have renewed the domain name and now linked it to the new message board.
The fafi.com domain name may be available for purchase.
Domain names are purchased for fixed periods of time. You can auto-renew, but you also have to auto-pay for auto-renewal.

I will adding everyone who registers as a member of the GIFFA Message Board on ProBoards to the Participant List. Of the 19 who have registered so far, 18 were already on the Participant List – anthony7, azmi, bobby, danb, desmondo, elvin11, imran7, jye, kenny, ScoobaKev, lookliew, neilm, pohkeng, admin, rajseran, ron, sagnik, sushil
markt has also registered as a member, so he’s put back into the Participant List.
For those who are members of the GIFFA Message Board, their e-mail address in the Participant List will be updated to reflect that in their member profile (if different from that which I previously had listed).
The Participant List will include a column showing the name used to register as a member of the Message Board. The earlier you register, the name you choose is unlikely to have been taken already.
The other advantage of registering is that you can post on the Message Board without needing to fill in the security check (required by ProBoards presumably to avoid spam) each time.

Jye, you’re currently listed as “female”. You can modify your profile to change it to male or so that your gender is undisclosed.

Do try to put your name down on the Schedule Board if you want to play.
You can see what games there are, who has already put their names down, how many places are left and line ups without SMSing.
